By the end of 2025, EenPorcelain had grown into an enamel jewelry design brand based in Rotterdam. We design, sample, and test our pieces here in the Netherlands, but we also outsource a large part of the making process to China.
This is not a hidden part of our brand. It is an important part of how we work. In this blog, we want to share how our design process works, why we choose this supply chain, and how we manage it as a designer jewelry brand in Europe.

Design and Development Process
Every piece starts from our own ideas, sketches, and design direction. Before a design becomes a final product, it usually goes through several steps:

1. Inspiration and sketching
We usually start from natural forms, structures, and shapes that fit our brand language. Then we create hand sketches and explore a few possible versions.
2. Discussion and adjustment
A design is rarely confirmed from the beginning. We review the shape, size, color, and details many times. Sometimes, we also share sketches on Instagram for votes and feedback.
3. Sampling, feedback, and redesign
After the design is clear, we send the sketch to our makers in China for the first sample. At this stage, we discuss the possiblities to see if anything needs to be adjusted. Sometimes the design is too difficult for the current technique, so we are pushed back to the sketching step.
4. Sample check and quality review
When the first sample is made, we review the details carefully. If we are not in China at that moment, our family or trusted friends may help us check the sample in person before it moves forward.
5. Small production and shipment to the Netherlands
Only when the sample is approved do we move into small-batch production. The finished pieces are then shipped to the Netherlands, where we prepare them for our customers.
Why We Work with Makers in China
Today, many low-cost production lines have moved from China to other countries in Southeast Asia. Instead, many well-known global brands, from mobile phones to luxury bags, are actually sourcing from Chinese manufacturers, not only for price, but because the quality, speed, and technical support can be very strong.
1. Not the cheapest, but the right techniques
We need skilled support in metal molding, gold plating on stainless steel and brass, enamel painting, finishing, and small details. Some of the best techniques and makers are only available in China, and they are not always cheap. We choose them because they can help us reach the quality we want.
2. Communication is clearer
We understand the language, culture, and working process better. This makes sampling, testing, and problem-solving much easier. Small design details and technical questions can be explained more directly, and feedback can move faster.
3. Finding the right partners
We look for makers who understand our designs, care about quality, and respect our values. For us, a good partner is not only someone who makes the product. They are also someone who helps us bring the design to life.
Our Vision: Better Value, Better Jewelry
For us, good jewelry is not only about where it is made. It is about original design, thoughtful details, stable quality, and a fair price.
As a small designer brand, our goal is not to make only a few expensive pieces for a very small group of people. We want more people to enjoy jewelry that feels unique, personal, and different from mass-market designs.
